Recently, Brazil has had its Presidential election and lets just say it had more questions than a jeopardy game.
Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva, had won an unprecedented 4th election. Lula who is no stranger to politics has been around for decades. Corruption and scandals that have rocked his presidency (Operation Car Wash-Operação Lava Jato) https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/lula-da-silva-corruption-cases-timeline-power-scandal-justice-7ldre?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&utm_campaign=share_via. Coming back from being sentenced and imprisoned for a year. Lula came back and continued his corruption.
This election has been chaotic. With Lula’s camp demanding a 2 hour extension to allow people to vote and Bolsonaro’s camp demanding an extension for people affected by bad weather. However, its interesting who granted Lula permission to extend the election. Cristiano Zanin, a Supreme Court Justice who personally represented Lula. The extension does not answer how Lula won but rather his cronies that allowed it. Was Zanin’s decision based on impartiality or not?
After Lula’s ‘victory’, the Supreme Court had ordered Bolsonaro to turn over his passport which would bar him from leaving Brazil. Interestingly, the same justice that ordered Bolsonaro Jr. to turn his passport over was the same one who oversaw his father, Jair’s, trial. Again more questions of impartiality building.
Flavio has since left Brazil and has a new home in the United States. Let us see how Brazil manages a fourth term socialist as President. A stock market crash is not the way to go.
